This ministry provides support and encouragement to those who are facing challenging circumstances.  The Pastoral Care Ministry is conducted by two pastoral ministers, Rev. Steve McCollum and Rev. Paul Murphy.  They go out in ministry representing the pastor, staff, and membership of First Baptist Church.  The ministers become a visible reminder of God’s presence during times of pain and sorrow.  The major areas of responsibility are in the areas of Hospital and Bereavement Ministries.

Hospital:  Our pastoral ministers daily visit our members and their relatives when they are hospitalized to offer prayer and comfort during their hospital stay.  A federal law greatly restricts the disclosure of patient information by hospitals. As a result, the Pastoral Care Ministries office may not know that a member of the church has been admitted to the hospital.

If you are hospitalized, it is important that you (or a family member) inform the Pastoral Care Ministry office as soon as possible. Please call us at 904-366-1236 and give us:

1)      the name of the patient;
2)      the hospital; and
3)      the room number with telephone number, if available.

Bereavements:  A death of a family member can be a very difficult time to go through.  When the Pastoral Care Ministry is notified of a death, the ministers contact the family as soon as possible, offer scripture and prayer support, and assist with funeral plans and arrangements, if needed.  Our Pastoral Care Ministry is designed to provide spiritual guidance and compassion during this time.

We have a support group called “Grief Share.” This group meets on Sundays at different times throughout the year.  This support group is especially for those who have lost a loved one.  The 2010 Winter Session is Sunday nights, January 10 through April 11, at 5:00, and meets on the 1st floor of the Children’s Building, room C-116.  The topic for March 14 is "The Uniqueness of Grief."  You are welcome to attend.
