Who should attend?

  • Pastors and church leaders who desire to create a discipleship culture in their churches
  • Those who want to learn to more effectively disciples others
  • Those interested in pursuing biblical counseling certification (These weekends will count towards ACBC’s Phase 1/Fundamentals training. For those pursuing ACBC certification, this training includes a self-counseling project.)

Why attend? We desire to train the whole person and so our discipleship training operates out of the following model:

  • Content: The basis of our belief system is Truth in a world of theory (John 17:17). We must learn substantive content to have a solid foundation.
  • Character: There is more to a human than a brain. Even though the culture views you as an evolutionary biological machine there is more. You have a soul, or using the better word biblically, a Heart (Proverbs 4:23). We want to make sure the biblical truths are changing your own soul so you are growing in Christ likeness. To counsel/disciple others without truth transforming you personally would be....hypocrisy.
  • Competence: Knowing truth theoretically does you no good unless you know how to put it into practice in your own life and the lives of others. We are all counselors so we need to know how to comfort others, listen well and speak biblical truth instead of just our own opinions.
  • Church Community: We believe the local church is God’s primary way of impacting the world through making disciples. It is exciting to be part of a local body that truly desires to make a difference in our disintegrating culture. In addition, the local church is a wonderful family to be part of as we "one another one another." True discipleship education happens as principles heard in class are incorporated into a character and competencies are practiced in a local church like First Baptist Church Jacksonville.
All of the above can be summarized from Romans 15:14. "I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another" (ESV).
