Steve and his wife, Laurie, have been serving their Lord and His church at First Baptist since 1996. They have 2 adult children, Caleb and Sarah, that are a true blessing in their lives. Steve was born in Los Angeles, CA, was adopted after birth and then raised in Dyersburg, TN. He earned a Bachelors of Church Music Performance degree from Arkansas State University in 1983 and completed post-graduate work in the field of Christian Education. He completed his ACBC certification in 2017 and his Specialization in Addictions Counseling in 2021.

Steve came to faith in Christ at the age of 21, after spending many years as an unregenerate church member. Since then Steve has served churches in Arkansas, Tennessee, and Florida. He has served First Baptist Jacksonville as the Associate Minister of Worship, Pastor for Adults, Pastor for Education and is now our Pastor of Care and Discipleship. He seeks to provide biblical counseling to all he meets with, counseling married couples and those struggling with life dominating sins, giving oversight to our church’s prison and substance abuse ministries, and ministering to those in the hospitals and during times of bereavement.
He claims Galatians 2:20-21 as his life verses: "I have been crucified with Christ; and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died for nothing."
